10th application:

Facilitating a mission building of an informal working group

(Lena)

Concept:

During one week-end a group of five persons built up their mission for future cooperation within their informal working group. It was the first time that this working group has been facilitated for their work.

Tools:

racing reporter, story telling, vision building, fish bowl discussion, fast information gathering, action planning, decision making with sociometry, evaluation with talking stick

Evaluation:

Not being responsible for holding time and space and to be enabled to step out of former roles enriched the working phases and improved the communication within this small group. The feedback inlcuded: thanks to facilitation the focus on the topic has been stronger // different communication tools and approached made the two days more divers and funny // visualisation made the process clearer and easier to understand // enough paper and colourful pens let creativity break out.

Learnings:

Even in small groups faciliation supports the work and group process // faciliation needs a balance between little steps, short working phases AND some long, not structured working phases // games and music bring fun!

New questions:

How to know whether a method or approach is working well or not in a group? How to bring people into a process that seems to exclude themselves (it does not matter whether the methods is based on talking, acting, writing, listening...)
